Honda and Toyota have had the midsized market all to themsleves with their entries; the Camry and the Accord, since Ford has dropped the Taurus from their line.Since its first introduction in 2006, Ford has made many modifications to the Fusion including the new Hybrid power plant that the public have really been taking notice to.The 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.In comparison to competitors, the Ford Fusion Hybrid gets some of the best in-town gas mileage. You can expect to get great fuel economy in city driving, around 41 MPG, which is much better than the Toyota Camry hybrid and a little better than the Civic Hybrid.  The Fusion’s electric engine can power the car up to 47 MPH without any help from the gas engine.  Already there have been many automotive magazines that have employed this system to achieve much better MPG ratings then the EPA estimates.

Using new technology, the Fusion can inform drivers which driving style is best for fuel economy.  They have created an ingenious system which is built into the instrument cluster called the SmartGauge. The driver is innundated with info from the dual data monitors next to the gauge cluster. The 1st display tells the power left in the battery packs and the remaining amount of fuel.  The second data screen adds an electric vehicle mode indicator and RPM Tach. The third monitor will tell how the battery power is and what the engine output is.The fouth data screen shows which wheels are being powered and accessory power consumption. All display screens show fuel efficiency, MPG record, voyage account, and changes in coolant temps. To inform the driver which driving style is the best for fuel economy, a real time MPG information gauge is available.

The nav screen shows the Hybrid Energy Flow data.A couple of different things will be displayed like the charge of the car, the various hybrid power systems, the regenerative braking, and the boost.

Seperating itself from the hybrid pack, the Fusion has seats made from reclaimed fabric. The Prius and the Civic Hybrid are two of the most popular cars out today, its about time Ford designed a hybrid car.
